When you are overweight, feelings of desperation can overwhelm you until you feel that you would do absolutely anything in order to take the weight off. This can be a scary place to be. When you are coming from such a desperate point of view, it can be very difficult to determine which weight loss procedures seem reasonable and which are coming completely out of left field.
In fact, when coming from such a desperate place, even weight-loss plans that would seem completely insane at first, blush if they were looked at objectively, can start to seem quite reasonable through the lens of so completely and passionately wanting to take off the extra weight which plagues you.
This is why the only way to truly evaluate whether or not a weight loss program is effective is to read the reviews and find out what the experts have to say about the efficacy of that particular way of losing weight. Reading the expert opinion is really the only way to see if you are justifying to yourself that it seems like a logical system that would work or if it does, in fact, seem like a system that has merit – not just to you, but to experts as well.
Take acupuncture for weight loss, for instance. This is a weight loss system that many people swear by. Testimonials abound if you go hunting for them. However, a prima facie examination of the concepts involved – you get needles stuck in the various parts of your body in order to shed weight – makes it seem a little wacky and ridiculous. Therefore, the only way is to reconcile these competing views and find out what the experts have to say!
In the first of the reviews, Obesity Reviews, in its May 2012 issue, included a study wherein the group of scientists undertook a highly specific and thorough review of many of the often-referenced clinical studies which inform thinking on obesity and the role that acupuncture can play in reducing it.
When the review compared acupuncture to both to no treatment and to pharmaceutical medications, acupuncture demonstrated not only an increased level of weight loss, but also a decrease in body mass index and a decrease in weight circumference. Those are powerful results and they never would’ve come to light without a team of dedicated scientists devoting years of their life to doing acupuncture and weight loss!
Hopefully, now that science backs what acupuncture enthusiasts have been saying for hundreds of years, a lot of people can be helped by this incredibly valuable knowledge. Obesity is a medical scourge in our country. People are dying every single day of obesity related illnesses that they do not have to suffer from, let alone die from. These diseases are, in every single way, preventable.
Now that we have the knowledge that these scientific reviews have provided us, we have the tools to make the concept of losing weight using acupuncture is much more mainstream than it currently is. A big obstacle to getting the effectiveness of this method out to the people that need it is the idea that most members of the public have about acupuncture – that it is painful, that it is extreme, that it is dangerous. None of these things are remotely true! However, even if they were, I believe that many people would risk any of those things if it meant that they could decrease their way in a way that is effective.
